needed fertilizer

Just a week ago I received this one and four others in my first VB order. The plants were small but in all five cases the leaves were an odd dark purplish olive green color. At first I wondered if all five varieties had purplish leaves. As I usually do I put them in my own wicking mix then waited before watering them. The purplish color got worse and in some the leaves started curling downward along the edges. I decided that this may be due to a phosphorus deficiency. Yesterday I started all five on an AV high phos fertilizer and in less than 24 hours all five have started showing green along the main vein, at the base of the leaves, and young small leaves have changed to green. The contrast in such a short time is stunning. There may be a reason why these young plants are being starved for nutrition. I do not know why. I hope to see some growth in them quickly now that they are being fed.
Blue Ribbon

I am thrilled with this plant. I saw in the AVSA magazine that it frequently received blue ribbons so I ordered one last April. I won a blue ribbon last month in Vermont with this plant. In my warm loft under lights, there is even more variegation including pink and I love the two tone (blue/white) flowers.
Outstanding Variety

I ordered a Picasso in my first order from Violet Barn 9 months ago. Within 4-6 weeks, it was in full bloom, and has constantly remained in full bloom since that time. The foliage is beautiful, and it looks exactly like the one on the website, except even slightly more bloom. I can't recommend it highly enough.
