Bristol's Xolo

Very large, velvety, very nearly black, purple blooms with two yellow 'fangs' on throat.  One of our favorites and most recommended.  Very profuse and constant bloomer.

Amazing!

This plant has been flowering consistently ever since receiving it, just lovely!

Beautiful!!

So happy with this plant! Its very easy going and grows well with nice flat leaves. The blooms come out nearly black and bright light shows the neon purple beneath! Truly a stunning plant and will always be a favorite!

Remarkable colors!

The flowers are so dark when seen straight on, but have such remarkable colors when you take a closer look. In bright light, slashes through the throat glow dark neon purple. From the side, the flowers contrast from their faces with pale lavender and violet.

Beautiful!

Received Xolo a few weeks back and it now has a bloom that looks like velvet. All plants came in perfect condition and now the decision is which other ones to add to my collection.

Arrived with a bloom stalk!

When I got this plant not only was it a very well established strep but it even had a bloom stalk with buds that arrived completely undamaged from shipping. Very impressed! Plant has maintained a nice size, not too big but not too small and very hardy. A great hybrid.

Lovely plant...

I got my Bristol's Xolo over a year ago and it's been growing nicely, but this month I finally got my first flower (actually three flower spikes) and it's SO beautiful. My others are blooming as well, but such a great plant. Looking forward to purchasing a few more for my collection. Thanks!

Beautiful and exactly what I wanted

I didn't expect this plant to bloom so soon after delivery (esp since it seemed on the smaller side) but was beyond excited when I saw buds. Holy moly it's blooms are gorgeous and exactly what I was looking for. In certain lighting the blooms look black, in others you can see the inky purple hue. They are stunning and the blooms look soft and velvety. So far it seems 2 blooms/stalk, and they last a very long time before they wilt. The leaves still don't look as healthy as my other streps, they look like the are on the verge of turning yellow/brown but maybe that's just it's coloring? I wish there was an African violet with this bloom color.

Love this plant...but...

I had this beauty for a short while (my bad that I lost it) It bloomed it's lovely DARK blooms for me. Impressive to say the least. I had to evacuate because of one of our California wildfires and it got too dry to come back. Now I'm ordering it again. It had so much potential.

repeat review

This is my second review for this plant because it keeps getting better and better. Abundant blooms and unbelievable color. I wanted to share this with you.

WOW!

I've grown a few African Violets and they have been doing really well. So with the quarantine and all I was researching these and found your nursery. I decided to order a few plants from your shop and decided to try some Streptocarpus and I was AMAZED at how great the plants all were... this variety came with a bud and looks so healthy and should bloom soon (my other was the same!). The packaging was great and none of the plants were damaged... I choose this variety due to the unique color and after reading your info it seemed like a great compliment to my African Violets... I'm ready for my next order and going to try a few other plants as well. THANKS and I look forward to my next order!

Anxiously Waiting!!!!

This is my first time ordering a strep, it hasn't bloomed as yet. I am anxiously waiting for the 1st bloom. Keeping my fingers crossed. Based on the picture, I am quite sure it will be spectacular.

Great plant!

Xolo is a prolific bloomer and has lovely, robust foliage. Very rewarding to grow.

Can't believe MY success

I was curious to grow the mini violets and then happened to see the streps. I gave them a try and I can't believe how well my Bristol's Xolo is doing. Constantly blooming. Gorgeous.

Missed It...By That Much

Bristol’s Xolo had been pushing up its dark blooms for several weeks and I was anxiously waiting to admire the “nearly black, purple blooms.” Then my A/C broke down and the house temperatures soared to over 100 degrees for several days. Unlike one of the previous reviews of Xolo surviving a fire, my Xolo went into shock and the multitude of blossoms wilted before they could fully present themselves. Even the surviving leaves never had a chance to propagate after I put them down. I will re-order some day to own this fine specimen.

First bloom - can't take my eyes off it!

I ordered this Streptocarpus because I have a soft spot for flowers with nearly-black blooms. I transplanted the little plant I received to a decent-sized pot, watered thoroughly once a week and made sure it had plenty of bright, indirect light. This little plant did not disappoint! I noticed the future flower stalks late last week and today, the first bloom opened. Absolutely gorgeous, almost velvety black, its color is so rich! If you love the dark blooms - make room in your collection for this beauty!

Ever Blooming

This adorable plant is an easy grower and is never out of bloom at my place. Even in the deep winter Xolo was putting on a show. Highly recommended.

Xolo the conquerer

Xolo is a vigorous, free flowering, and hardy plant that has well earned a spot in my collection. It survived a fire in my home last year, and the following neglect and moves, when a lot of other plants didn't make it... it is blooming now with new buds, many new buds, coming up. The first flower is huge and has lasted 2 weeks now with no signs of stopping! Just a wonderful, hardy, beautiful plant with a tough generous heart!

A+++

This guy nearly died when our greenhouse heater went berserck and heated everything up to 140F! Just one little piece of a leaf still attached. We repotted it, and two months later it's a brand new plant and growing like mad. Beautiful very large velvety blooms!

Judith Jernigan Jul 12 2014, 11:33 AM

Stunning and constant bloomer

I ordered this back in July. It flowered within a couple of weeks and hasn't stopped since (it's mid-December now). The blooms are a stunning velvety deepest darkest purple. Though it's a compact grower, the blooms are large relative to the plant's size. It's also quite hardy as it took my newbie growing set-up in stride and was very helpful in figuring out the correct lighting, temp, and watering that streps prefer. This little plant is a survivor!

Gorgeous plant!

This plant is such a nice, compact size and the blooms are gorgeous! Destined to be one of my favorites!

Becky Lombard Jun 07 2013, 17:46 PM

Better than the photo

Just amazing. Midnight velvet radiating light from the throat. So must more dramatic than the photo. Large flowers from a very tiny, young plant. So much more than expected.

MaryZ Jun 01 2013, 17:43 PM

Bristol's Xolo

This is my favorite Strep so far. I love this plant. It is extremely vigorous and hasn't stopped flowering since I got it. The flowers are the deepest shade of purple that I have ever seen. Friends gasp when they see this plant. Most of them have never seen a flower that comes so close to being black. I highly recommend it. The pictures don't do justice to it. Get it, you won't be disappointed!

Jacques Pauw Aug 15 2012, 16:29 PM

Very Pleased!

Really unique, quick to bloom. The richness of color is hard to appreciated until you have it on your windowsill, next to the other plants. Most definitely a keeper!

Greg Meissner Aug 05 2012, 13:53 PM

Bristols Xolo

I received this plant last year around March. The flowers are beautiful, a must have. Doing great even in the desert of Arizona! (east facing window, about three hours of filtered light).

Omar Rios Apr 01 2012, 14:16 PM

Awesome!

Don't be afraid of the dark! This deep violet beauty will steal your heart. Great shape and covered in blooms. I highly recommend this one!

Dorothy Cate Aug 15 2011, 22:38 PM
